Khurasan Alien Bounty Hunter 5

Finally got the 5th one of the pack done!  I was stalled on him as I was agonizing over the color scheme. I wanted to do white, but that was the stock scheme, so I diverged and settled on red and black--you can't ever go wrong with this color combo!

Anyway, here he is!

Flanked by a RAFM Crewmen (Left) and CMG Merc (right)

I've placed another, larger Khurasan order, but in the meantime, I intend to turn my attention to their excelent flight crew sci-fi civilians.

RAFM Security Officer

I dug another RAFM sci-fi mini out of the backlog and painted him up last night.  This guy is ready to enforce security with extreme prejudice!

I used a Foundry 3-step Quagmire on his uniform.

RAFM Sci-Fi Civilian

A couple of years ago I bought a lot of RAFM 15mm sci-fi packs--they're a great value and provide a nice spread of figures for the genre.  Although these figures are old by current standards, I really enjoy their character and quality.

This excellent figure is from the Crewmen pack.  He reminds me a bit of an A-Team era George Peppard, but maybe that's just me!

Flanked by Khurasan Alien (left) and CMG Merc (right).

As I look more toward using my 15mm in RPG games like Dark Heresy, I'll need more figures like this one in the stable. I love it when a plan comes together!

Blasters & Bulkheads 2nd Ed.

While I've mentioned this elsewhere, I've not promulgated it here, so here goes!

Joe D. and I have been talking about getting B&B onto Lulu so folks can get proper, POD copies of the rules. Heck, I want one!

Anyway, the way we laid out and designed the old rules 2 years ago does not allow us to just upload it to Lulu as is. We need to make significant changes in the layout files. So we decided that, given what we've learned in the intervening two years, we might as well just do new layout better suited to POD.

Right now I am going back through the manuscript and tidying stuff up, and where  possible, adding refinements to the rules. We're going to add new art (replacing the miniature photography), a few new races, and some refined rules elements. I learned a bit writing Goalsystem Delves, so some of that (especially the maneuvers) will make its way into B&B 2nd ed. The overall tone, while still remaining cinematic, will be somewhat less "Star Wars" and somewhat more generic. This will mainly be reflected in some changes to power names, backgrounds, etc.

I'm also proud to announce that we'll have jazzy new cover art from industry pro Rich Yanizeski, a tragically under-utilized talent, but we aim to change that!

Just a note, I am not changing the damage system over to damage rolls; I prefer the DN system  for B&B and other more "shooty" games.

Anyway, if you have B&B and noticed any significant errata or had a suggestion, let me know here or by PM,  and I will consider it for incorporation. Schedule-wise we plan to have this up on Lulu by mid-March, and anyone who bought the original B&B will be eligible to purchase the PDF of this 2nd ed. at 50% off (so it will cost you around $5).  More on this when I have cool stuff to share!

As always, thanks for visiting!

Khurasan Alien Bounty Hunter 4

Number four in this 5-pack is done!

I've got a few non-combatants I'd like to work on before finishing number 5 from this pack, so we'll see what gets done next.

Khurasan Alien Bounty Hunter 1

Picked up the 5-pack of Khurasan 15mm Alien Bounty Hunters. Simply tremendous!  Painted my first one last night!

Pictured next to a Rebel Pangalactic Legionaire.

I'll try to knock out at least one more before the long weekend finishes out.

Sci-Fi Utility Vehicle: Stalinets Tractor

When I came across this Flames of War resin two-pack online, I immediately thought it would make a great sci-fi utility vehicle for Starport 3030.  I could see these puttering around an old mining site, or being used in a pinch for emergency transport by a small group of desperate fighters.

Order code is BFSU273 Stalinets tractor

It was a breeze to paint, and I will do the second one soon!

Rebel Minis Pangalactic Legion

I am a huge fan of the old Alien Legion comics, and so I have had my eye on Rebel Minis Pangalactic Legion 15mm sci-fi troops for some time. Placed an order last week and had them in three days!

Here are the first three!

Returning to 15mm has been an adjustment. I am wrestling with these guys and getting them "right" in my mind. Still a work in progress, but I am getting there. My camera work on the 15mm stuff has been lacking too.

But I'll get back in the swing!

Another Critical Mass Merc

Got the bullet-headed Merc from Critical Mass Games done on Saturday. Check him out!

While I am off to a bit of a slow start with 15mm sci-fi stuff, I hope to pick up the pace soon.  I've got plenty of stuff in the hopper, and more on the way!

Khurasan Female Crew Member

Khurasan miniatures makes one of the widest and highest quality lines of 15mm sci-fi around. Last year I worked on some other figures from this pack. Now I've picked this gal up from the project pile on got some paint on her.

She'll make a great character for Starport 3030 or any setting or skirmish game.

Below you can see that she scales very well with the CMG Merc I painted the other day. Whether they get along or not is another question!

15mm: A Return

Life is about transitions. In the next year my wife and I may be moving to smaller digs. Nothing is certain, but the possibility is a strong one. This means I need to re-evaluate the last 20 years of my miniature collecting. I've always been a prolific modeler and painter, so maybe that makes it easier for me to let go of an army, warband, or individual figure, knowing that I can crank out replacements if the desire hits me.

So over the next few months I am going to sell off a lot of my older painted (and unpainted) figures that I am not using, or that I don't plan to use. The idea is to cut down to the core of my collection, the stuff I use a lot or just won't part with. In the meantime I've been thinking that a return to 15mm modelling and painting is now in order. With 15mm I can still make small purchases and satisfy my desire to paint and collect, and I get satisfying games in on a 2' x 2' square. This scale seems ideal for gaming in a condo or smaller house.

So to celebrate my return to 15mm painting and gaming, I plan to work in some posts with those themes in mind. Games on a 2x2--stuff like Blasters & Bulkheads, Gruntz (a game I have ordered, but not yet tried), and maybe even some fantasy stuff using the excellent 15mm range from Copplestone Castings.

Next to a Khurasan Garn.

For today I've painted up just one figure, but hey, I need to get back in the swing of things! It's a great mini from Critical Mass Games' mercenaries line. More to come!

Hordes: 15 pt. Trollblood Campaign Force

As I've said over the past few posts, the Trollbloods I am working on (and reacquiring in some cases) are for a specific, store-based escalation campaign. While also narrative in nature, the campaign will slowly build in points over time. We're starting at 15 pts.

Here's my list:

Madrak Ironhide (+6 beast pts.)
Troll Impaler 5 pts.
Dire Troll Mauler 9 pts.
Trollblood Fenblades 5 pts. (leader + 5)
Whelps 2 pts. (5 solo models)
=====
total = 15 pts.

And here's a couple of shots of the assembled force:

I played one game last Sunday and it was quite fun. It's a neat and balanced force, and the Whelps really allow me to run the Trolls "hot"--I may need to add more Whelps in the future, but I'd like to use different models if possible. We'll see.

Hordes: Dire Troll Mauler

I could not make this latest foray into Trollbloods without doing a Dire Troll Mauler. The new plastic kit allows you to make one of three types of Dire Trolls: Blitzer, Bomber, or Mauler.  I chose the Mauler for aesthetic reasons, but I am told by the PP cognoscenti that he is an auto-include in any troll list. This is a rare occasion where my tastes and the best rules converge.

Anyway, assembled and painted him over Friday and Saturday. Love this kit!

All I can say is I want more plastic!  The plastic Swamp Troll news was great, but let's have more! Plastic Pygs would be awesome!
