Chaos Space Marines

I know at some point in my Inquisitor skirmish-RPG journey we'll need to face the forces of Chaos. Chaos Space Marines, to be precise! I acquired two Blackstone Fortress Chaos Space Marines to paint up for just such an occasion!

Here they are! Brought to you by the wonder of Army Painter Speed paints!

Later this week, more to come on the Haarlock's Legacy campaign.

Thanks for looking!

Concluding Tattered Fates Part 2

After taking out Gang Boss Papa Grist, we earned our invitation to the Revel at Gabriel Chase.

After arriving and  gathering some helpful clues with some social interaction rolls (and rules, see below!),  we faced the twin horrors of the Widower and the Beloved, a vile Chaos sorcerer.

It was really a three way battle, as the Beloved wanted to be the one to take out the Widower so he could collect his essence and enslave him. The Widower just wanted to slay any living being it came across! Stu and I were hoping more hapless party-goers would wander into the Widower's path, but after he slew the first one, the others just seemed to randomly avoid him!

It was left to us to face him. We had gathered enough info to learn that opening the fabled  Steel Clock and securing its Keystone would allow us to truly destroy the Widower for good. So we tasked Hanse Grebs and Septimus Dexter with making the Intellect checks to accomplish this extended task. Unfortunately, after just one attempt, Hanse Grebs was charged and slain by the Widower.

Meanwhile, Stu's Vostroyan IG conscripts were harrying the Widower with withering fire form their long-las sniper. My servitor, Ergo-VI also added to the fire on the vile sorcerer. Eventually we took him out! Big relief there.

Then we fought a desperate delaying melee against the Widower, and Dexter successfully opened the clock and destroyed the Keystone! The decadent city of Xicarph, and the whole world of Qaddis, were saved!

Lady Melua and a Vostroyan battle the Widower; Hanse has already fallen!

Dexter works feverishly to open the Steel Clock. I was pretty happy with my quickly knocked together Steel Clock terrain piece!

Behind the clock, Ergo-VI and the Vostroyan Sergeant have finished off the Beloved and are moving around to engage the Widower just as Dexter destroys the Keystone!

In all, my theory about adapting the Dark Heresy modules to my Techno-Fantasy Adventure* rules worked splendidly!

More to come!

* I have changed the title from Techno-Fantasy Skirmish to Techno-Fantasy Adventure because I have added enough RPG elements for folks to run the game as a simple RPG. So now it's keyword skirmish, co-op, PvP, and RPG!

Dark Heresy Lives Again! Well, sort of...

My buddy and I decided to play through Haarlock’s Legacy, a Dark Heresy three book adventure published 13 years ago. We’re playing it as a co-op skirmish RPG, and using Techno Fantasy Skirmish, some rules of my devising.
Yesterday, we kicked things off with the Red Cages, the first chapter in Tattered Fates. This is the first book in the three issue arc that is Haarlock’s Legacy.
The first encounter was very spare in terms of setting. We started off awakening from being drugged and thrown into a pit and blood sport arena with some other unfortunates. Then, while a mysterious masked marauder watched from above, deadly beasts entered from opening gates.
We were set upon, and while some of the non-combat NPCs attracted the beasts’ attention at first, we ended up having to fight hard. This impressed our mysterious voyeur, and they eventually dropped a ladder for us to escape the pit.
Barbarella, my feral world female barbarian, barely escaped with her life. Our other characters all survived with minor injuries and we moved on to the next encounter.
We found the mysterious Vault 13, where we recovered our stolen gear and weapons, and found the half-dead Inquisitor Karkalla, who bade us to continue his mission and avenge him. After setting a fire as a distraction, we battled our way to the elevator that would raise us out of the hell of the Red Cages. My Magus, Nalan Sicarius was brutally cut down by the blunderbuss fire of one of the beast slavers.
While he “died” in post-battle, my buddy Stu’s character, Roddick, rolled the Ressurection Chamber event, and Nalan was able to cheat death at the cost of 1 point of Charisma.
Next week, we hope to get in the next chapter, The Carnival of Blood.

Chaos Bike

Photographing this thing was not fun. Building it was. If you fudge the trees like I did there isn't any serious engineering. Some tube and bits and there you go. I have a few more unpainted. I had a concept for a really biker heavy force but that got scaled down to a nice unit. I am going to spend the points for everything in the army to be mounted. I had a vague idea of a renegade legion that perpetually rode a massive highway that circled the equator of some blighted industrial planet. They would lean toward Slaneesh or Slanesh or Slade or whatever, but not be sophisticated enough to go all the way.
Three more to go. Scott posted in progress pics of a Kenner Rebel Shuttle I was converting for use with 15mm Sci Fi. That beast is finally ready for paint. I even bought an airbrush. Stand by for alot of wailing and gnashing of teeth as I get that going. Preshading soon!

ITEN: Rapturous Beasts Ascending

So my buddy Stu saw my post on Reaper's mutant and got a burr in his saddle to play some In The Emperor's Name (ITEN).  If you have not heard of it, it's a mainly fan-made skirmish system for doing Abnett-style Inquisitorial games in the 40K universe. I had the good fortune to nose my way into the process a few years ago and add some cool stuff to the 2nd ed. I know there is a 3rd ed. in the works, but we'll be using the 2nd ed. this morning.

Anyway, I dug through my extensive collection of minis suitable for building a warband for this, and decided on an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor and his band. This guy is a bit of a heretic, so he's willing to pal around with aliens to get the job done. Check them out!

Here's the band. 200 pts., 8 models.

Inquisitor Holger Geist (a Cobalt mini).
Ygori, his mutant henchmen.
Greskin, alien psyker (Blue Moon mini).
P'knoc, Kroot tracker.
Imperial Interdiction Team.

I'll stat the Interdiction Team up as Guardsmen with shotguns. The alien psyker will be made up using the standard psyker rules and profile. Ygori the mutant will be a standard Inquisitorial agent with some sort of minor special ability. I'll include the Kroot using the Strange Ally rules that allows one model from another list.

So yeah, ITEN makes for a great way to dust off the old (or not so old!) minis and get some gaming in!

Thanks for visiting!

The 5th Chaos Cultist Is Done

I finished the 5th Chaos Cultist from the GW toy box. Can't stress too much what a sweet little boxed set this is for $10!

I used these guys in a game last night! They make excellent RPG villains for Inquisitor-based games.

Warhammer 40K: A Fourth Cultist

Finished another of the 5 cultists from the 40K toy-box I picked up a few weeks ago. I may have a chance to use these guys in a game this weekend. We shall see!

Warhammer 40K: A Second Cultist

Got a second one done!  I love drum-fed guns, and this guy has a cool one! Probably an old autogun!  Wish I had these models when Necromunda was all the rage.

I'll try to get at least one more done this week.  We shall see!

GW 40K Chaos Plastic Cultist

I was very happy to see GW's release of the $10 plastic Chaos Cultist boxed set.  I've been meaning to get the main 40K boxed set that has all 20 cultists, and I will, but this will tide me over until I do!

These are some of my favorite GW plastic releases in recent memory. Pure skirmish-gaming gold!

Got the first one done today!

I used Army Painter Uniform Gray primer and went from there!  Just stuck with a simple pallet that I will likely follow on all subsequent cultists. These guys will be ideal for In the Emperor's Name skirmish games as well.

The plan is to paint at least two more this week, but we'll see.

Thanks for visiting!
