Big Dred Konversion: Finished!

Here he is! Not as big as I might have liked, but I am extremely happy with the finished product!

And here's a comp shot with the other stock Dred:

Now to get some more Boyz done!

Big Dred Konversion

I'm doing a Dred Mob Apocalypse formation for my Ork force, and today I've got pics of the unpainted konversion ready to show off!

I gave this model a slight height increase while building by adding some tread bits to the bottoms of its feat. It will stand a head or so taller than the standard, stock GW Dred.

The Kustom Force Field (KFF) generator has been magnetized for easy removal and storage.

Here's a look at the mounting area for the KFF:

Off The Shelf: Kustom 'Ard Boyz

I made this unit about 2.5 years ago. There are 12 all together, and each one required about 3 hours of work. They combine parts from the plastic Black Orcs and plastic Black Reach Orks.

I've tidied up their bases for the big game coming on 1/21/12.

Pictured here are the Nob and one member of the 12 boy unit.

Please, Skullhamma, Don't Hurt 'Em!

Pardon the MC Hammer reference. Could not resist.

Yesterday I had some time to get some paint on the Skullhamma. Now at least I can field it, and I may "tune" the paint and weathering up some over the next few weeks.

Next I'll tune up some of my older Ork paint jobs and basing for the game.

Warhammer 40,000: Skullhamma Konversion!

My local FLGS, Phantom of the Attic, is lucky enough to be partaking in the World's Largest Apocalypse game for Warhammer 40K. Folks who read this blog regularly likely know that I own a large Ork army, and so I decided to "freshen" it up with a new piece worthy of this really big game.

Looking through my Apocalypse rule book, I decided to convert an IG super-heavy into a Skullhamma Battle Fortress. I was able to trade some painted minis for an assembled IG super-heavy tank, and then the last few days I've gone over it with my collection of Ork bits to make a proper "konversion."

Here it is in its unpainted state:

Yes, that's Space Marine Razorback I'm using as the Big Gun turret. I needed some kind of "box" to house the big gun, and I saw a badly assembled Razorback in my FLGS' used mini bin, so I grabbed it and hacked it up! I've magnetized it to the Skullhamma hull so it rotates and comes off for easy storage.

I still have a number of minor details to add before I begin painting, but I'm getting there!

WH 40K Orks! New Deff Dredd

Inspiration is a funny thing. I was in my FLGS on Friday and I spotted the boxed set for the relatively new Ork Deff Dredd, and I decided I wanted to do it. We're having a "Haunted Tank" 40K event at the Phantom on Sunday, and I wanted to do something new for my already massive Space Ork force.

So here it is! What a great plastic kit! Allowed me to really stretch my weathering techniques to the next level!

And here's a size comp shot--what a brute!

I'll report on how he does later next week!

40K Kill Team Nearing Completion

I'm juggling a lot of different things of late, but I am inching closer finishing the Ork Kill Team in time for Sunday's event kickoff.

All 5 Nobs are done to my satisfaction, and now I have only 4 Gretchin and the Runtherd left to do.

Here's the pics to back me up!

I hope to also show off some more 15mm sci-fi later this week. We shall see!

Nobz Ride in Style

I finally put together my official GW Ork Battlewagon. A while back I made a kustom one. I've owned the official kit for some time without building it, but when I read in the codex that Nobz could take one as a dedicated transport, I was inspired to build and paint it.

For my money, this is one of GW's best of the new generation of plastic kits. Ingeniously designed with a number of optional add-ons, Ork players can't go wrong with this one.

Here's a shot of the whole wagon. The paint scheme is in keeping with my standard Ork beat-up, weathered. I generally do not spring for the "Red Ones Go Fasta" rule, however.

The full wagon from another angle. I did not glue the top section and turrets so I'd have an easier time transporting them, and I could point them at who I was firing at.

Here's a shot taken from a hovering Def Kopta (thus the poor focus and photography):

Here's a closer shot of the passenger side door. There's no interior details for the kit, so if you wanted to leave this open, or make it hinged, you'd have to import the driver from the Trukk kit. Not a bad idea for my next BW--if there is a next one!

Just another example of the many fine details on the kit--I love the hanging armor plates that you can attach to the rear body section.

Here's a shot of the "big gun", a pretty standard ork kannon that would be suitable for punching vehicles or high Toughness value creatures--I'm looking at you, Wraithlord! There was a great periscope/shield bit you were supposed to put next to the machine gun cupola, but I felt like the MG could not traverse properly with it there, so I missed it out and instead capped the aperture with a bit from a Burna Boy backpack.

A view into the rear crew/passenger area:

This last one provides a close-up of my stippling work:

Basically, I sprayed the assembled BW black, then sprayed it roughly with GW Boltgun Metal spray. Once dry I stippled on GW Foundation Mechrite Red. This is done haphazardly. Tires and treads were re-blacked, then roughly dry-brushed with various craft store muddy and creamy browns. The whole BW was then liberally painted with a mixture of Devlan Mud, Badab Black, and white glue (for added control and flow enhancement). Then I painted the cupola ork in my standard method. That's it.

Job's a good 'un!

More Ork Action!

I finished a passel of Ork stuff over the last two weeks. Thought I'd show it off in some posts this week. Here's the first, my new Nobz!

I'll show off the new Battle Wagon later this week!
