LotR Gimli

Here's Gimli from GW's Lord of the Rings line. I tried to follow the paints as described in one of the old White Dwarf magazines (more or less). I still have an over-abundance of old White Dwarf mags, and should get rid of a lot of them, but I'll keep all of the ones with LotR articles, regardless. The fig is based in the old style, and maybe I'll get around to changing it one of these days. Great fig, though!

P.S. I'm currently working on Star Wars Imperial Assault figs generic Wookie and Chewbacca. And I finally finished building the Orlock gang - what a royal pain that was! They are all built and primed, and I plan on starting them next week, after the Wookies are finished! All I need now is to figure out a paint scheme for them...

LoTR: Radagast the Brown

Next up for all of us Middle-Earth Mavens is everybody's favorite elusive wizard, Radagast the Brown. Despite his re-tooled look in the Hobbit movies, I find this sculpt much closer to my vision of Radagast. It seems to show him as somewhat detached, yet still powerful - in marked contrast to the bumbling depiction of him in the movies. Another great Perry sculpt (not sure which brother, though).

Necromunda redux

With all the hype around the reissue of GW's Necromunda, I've taken a look at my old Necromunda figs. I have two painted gangs: Cawdor and Delaque. Both were painted around 20 years ago (I know - I'm getting old...). Anyway, the paint jobs are less than stellar on them, and I pulled out the Cawdor leader and decided to repaint it. I think that it turned out pretty well, especially considering the original state of the paint job (which I unfortunately did not take a shot of). It just goes to show you that with practice at anything, you will get better, and you can always at the least touch up your figs from the past to make them look better. The Cawdors were all pretty great figures, in my opinion.

LotR: Saruman

Time for another GW Lord of the Rings fig. This time it's everybody's favorite corrupted wizard - Saruman! Not the most dynamic sculpt, but I like it nonetheless. The Perry twins have produced some great figs in their time, and this line is among their best. It's unfortunate that the metals are out of production (and that I'm still missing a few of them!).

Projects for this weekend include finishing up a couple of Frostgrave figs and a few others that I have to just paint the metals on (and a classic Umber Hulk retouch-up). I may also paint up a D&D plastics Dire Wolf fig that I recently picked up, if I have the time.

LoTR

While I try and get my digital camera figured out for proper pics of some newly painted mini's, I thought that I'd post a couple of pics from one of my favorite lines of miniatures - GW's Lord of the Rings. In my opinion, they are the best looking and sculpted Elves and Dwarves available. I love the vast majority of the entire line (though there are some duds, I admit), and I have most of them (naturally, the majority are unpainted). First up is Legolas -  his base is finished in an old style, which I soon changed in favor of other methods, but I still think it looks alright. Anyway, great sculpt!
