Goalsystem Delves Available At Cold Wars

I just wanted to let folks know that Goalsystem Delves will be available at the Old Glory booth at Cold Wars this weekend (March 7 - 10). J. Lee Howard has kindly consented to handle selling them for me at the show!  The show special on these is $35.

Of course, if you or an agent cannot attend the show, you can still purchase PDF copies of the book through the normal channels:  Wargame Downloads and Saber's Edge.

Print books can be purchased online through the Noble Knight store

In other news, Joe D. is working through the layout on B&B 2nd ed. and I hope to have some page views this weekend.  Perhaps I can show some off if we reach that point.

We shall see!

Two Minis, 90 Minutes

I was fortunate to have a lot of folks I know help me out on the recent Goalsystem Delves Kickstarter we ran. Some of them were colleagues in the large public library system I work in, and don't game regularly or know much about gaming. Two of these folks, Don and Wes, each pledged for a single miniature. Small pledges, but important nonetheless for us to maintain momentum and continue adding backers.

Yesterday morning I had some time before work and I went to pack up their minis for inter-office mailing, and I just could not do it.  I could not send these two guys I know so well and work with unpainted metal. What would they do with them?  Throw them in a drawer?  Anyway, I had 90 minutes before catching the train to work, so I resolved to speed paint these two figures (the Half-Orc Monk and the male Halfling Adventurer) to the best of my ability and let the chips fall where they may.

I wanted them to have figures they'd be proud to display on their computers or a book shelf. Anyway, I am pretty pleased with what I got done in 90 minutes.

Not bad for starting with un-based, un-primed, bare metal, huh?  One of my most effective tactics is having a small fan right next to my painting station. This allows me to dry stuff quickly between stages.

Anyway, I've painted these figs so often (maybe 5 times?) in the last 3 months I could probably paint them blindfolded!

D&D Harbinger Fire Elemental!

I've wanted this mini since the Harbinger D&D minis set first came out years ago.  Last week my buddy Dave unloaded some of his pre-painted stuff, and I was lucky enough to snatch him up!

I immediately decided to re-base him on a GF9 45mm MDF round. Now he's ready for action in Shadowrun as well as Goalsystem Delves!

Hasti better watch out, messing with this dude could get him burned!

Delves: Another Brilliant Post From Tenz!

Tenz strikes again with another amazing Goalsystem Delves adventure report on his Basement Motive blog! His unique combo of eye-popping paint work, slick adventure creation, and excellent terrain makes me want to immediately emigrate to Newfoundland so I can join his group!

The first part of the  "Into the Moathouse" adventure combines action and investigation, the two elements that possess the potential to turn any Delves game into a full-on skirmish adventure.

Thanks, again, Tenz!  Keep showing us the way!

And thanks to you folks for visiting!

Goalsystem Delves PDF Available For Sale!

Hey, folks!  Backers of the Delves Kickstarter have had the PDF rules for about a week, and now anyone else can purchase copies through our PDF partners, Wargame Downloads and Saber's Edge.

The PDF retails for $15.00 and gets you both the fully laid out deluxe version and the stripped down, printer friendly version.

The Delves rules blend RPG elements with traditional tabletop miniature skirmish for a unique and engaging play experience. While they can be played competitively, they work best when one player takes the role of the Game Master, or GM.  The rules work with any fantasy miniatures, and have been written with 28mm or 15mm miniatures in mind.

As always, thanks for visiting!

Basement Motive Delivers More Delves!

Super-gamer Tenz delivers more Goalsystem Delves action on his blog, the Basement Motive.  Check it out here!  I really dig his converted Malefic Merengue!  Check it out:

What a nasty looking cuss that guy is!  Enough to change the direction of any adventuring party!

Thanks, Tenz, and thanks to you folks for visiting!

Nobody Asked Me, But...

Being an occasional feature where I discuss a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

It's our third session of Shadowrun this weekend, and since I'm co-GMing this with Andrew, it's my turn to play!  Awesome, I get to unleash my Ork Physical Adept on the Streets of Mumbai!  I'll hopefully be prepping my miniature tomorrow, and should I get him done in time, I'll do a blog post on him Sunday, all other factors permitting.

My buddy Dan was kind enough to make me a nifty Initiative Tracker for our Shadowrun games.  You can see a piece of it to the left there. Here is a link to download it as a PDF.  This will help us with keeping track of all of those initiative passes and shifting scores.

The Goalsystem Delves Kickstarter post-production is moving apace.  I'll be receiving a printed proof from the CPC Group (our printer) any day now, and I cannot wait.  Once that checks out, the official print run will come soon after!  Final casting of the Oni Mage, Half-Orc Monk, and Kobold Hireling is also taking place even as I type this.

We'll have the Delves PDF out to all of the KS backers owed a copy within the next 2 - 3 days.  I think folks will be very pleased with our work.  Joe Dragovich really killed it on the layout, and the book will be the nicest one I've been a part of to date.

My KS partner Donald Gentry over at Tinker's Lair is selling unpainted pieces and sets from the Caverns of Blood set we offered painted in the Delves KS.  Check them out here.  Great stuff!

Apropos of  nothing, I filled a hole in my long run of Marvel's Avengers (1963) comic book.  Picked up issue #178 featuring a solo story of the Beast.  Penned by Steve Gerber and drawn by Carmine Infantino and the inimitable Rudy Nebres, this one was a lot of fun to read!

Goalsystem Delves: Cover Layout Done!

Joe Dragovich took Chris Moeller's gorgeous cover and dressed her up very nicely indeed!

Check it out!

Like I said before--I can't wait to hold this lovely little book in my hands!

Goalsystem Delves: The Basetarian Chronicles Continue

Awesome Earth Elemental from Tenz' site.
Delves fan Tenz has updated his amazing blog with more shots of his figures and terrain for the game.  Check them out here.

The slick terrain and excellent miniature work on the blog really help to affirm all of the hard work we've done to this point.  Now as we enter the layout stage, I'm getting more and more excited about actually holding the "real" book in my hands.

We've got time yet, but the anticipation is building.

We'll keep you posted!

And thanks again, Tenz, for your great work!

Goalsystem Delves: The Basetarian Chronicles

Sometimes you meet folks online who remind you just why you got into doing this whole zany thing to begin with.  Case in point: Tenz.  This guy had approached me about play-testing weeks ago and I happily sent him a doc.

Well, little did I know he was beavering away on an amazing setup to play out his games in. You can check it out on his blog, Basement Motive, right here!

What an amazing project Tenz and his gaming group are undertaking, and they're using my rules!

I admit that at times my creative "powers" ebb, especially after a long haul like a 45 day Kickstarter with lots of ups and downs. It's folks like Tenz and his family that recharge my batteries and get me going again!

Thanks, folks!  There's a copy of Goalsystem Delves with your name on it!

Goalsystem Delves: Funded!

Well, thanks to a lot of hard work on our end and a lot of support from the
gaming community, Delves is now funded!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/222965736/goalsystem-delves-dungeon-skirmish\
-role-play

We're going to spend the next few weeks getting the rules ready for print,
collecting reward miniatures, painting reward terrain, and doing the other
business related to fulfilling all of our commitments.

Thanks to everyone who supported us, talked us up to friends, and sent positive
vibes our way!

Once all of the KS orders have been fulfilled, I will have the PDF up for sale
in the usual spots, and hard-copies available via an as yet undecided means.
Probably a simple PayPal transaction. We'll see.

Thanks, again!

Goalsystem Delves: We Cracked the Goal!!!

With less than two days remaining, we have exceeded our $11,500 goal!

Now, Kickstarter can be a fickle beast, so we're not out of the woods yet, but this is very exciting news for us!

You can check out the project (and make a pledge ;-) right here.

Thanks to all those who've already helped us out!  We will do our best to deliver a superior product!

Goalsystem Delves: The Last Miniature!

Super-sculptor Soapy has turned in the last miniature for our Goalsystem Delves Kickstarter!  He's an amazing 28mm Half-Orc Monk!

Check him out!

This amazing mini is available individually, and as part of a 5-figure set at the $50, $85, $100, and $300 levels.

He's a superb example of the kind of mini you might use to run a Fighting Monk in the Delves rules!  You can truly see the amazing talent Soapy has brought to Crossover Miniatures on display with this figure!

Way to go, Soapy!

Goalsystem Delves: My Favorite Monster

In writing and playing the Goalsystem Delves rules over the last few months, I've developed some favorites when it comes to running the monsters.  The humble Hag has emerged as my favorite monster to run using the rules.  Here's her profile:

Hag (82 pts.): While they wear the guise of an old human woman, Hags possess terrible powers to curse and kill.
Monster 6D, Str 5D, Def 5D, Tough 5D, Init 11
Mv: 6”    HP: 6   Primary ATT & DAM: Claws 6D/7D
Alignment: E  Size: M
Fate: 3 [  ] [  ] [  ]
Attributes & Powers: Dark Vision, Deadly +2D, Evasion +1D, Curse, Fated 1, Hideous Strength +1D, Initiative +2,  Melee Attack +2D DAM, Spell Steal
Drive: Cruelty
Reward Level: +2D

Her ability to steal spells can confound PC spell casters, and her surprising strength and ferocity maker her a devilish foe in close combat.

Here are some of the models I've used to depict her in games:

My favorite of the 4 models has to be the old Talisman witch picture in blue above. I also love the pre-painted D&D miniature that is based off Wayne Reynolds' artwork.

Goalsystem Delves: 10 Days Left

Chris Moeller's Gorgeous Cover!
Well, folks, there are 10 days remaining in the Goalsystem Delves Kickstarter, and we find ourselves a little bit behind the 8-ball. We're hovering near 70% funded, so we need a final push to get us into the black!

Once the actual KS got in gear I've shied away from over-posting Delves related stuff here; I like to keep the pure hobby stuff I do separate from the hobby-biz stuff I'm into, but this project blurs the lines a bit. If the KS does not make it, I still plan to release Delves, but it won't be the book I envisioned.  It won't be as special. But hey, that's life in the game biz.

Thanks for your consideration, and for those who have backed us and consistently stayed with us through this ride, we really appreciate you!

Goalsystem Delves KS Updates!

Well, folks, we have 23 days to go in Goalsystem Delves Kickstarter and we're at a little over 60%!

In case you didn't get enough of my "handsome mug" in the first video, Rico and I put together a second video to highlight the coolness of the Tinker's Lair terrain we're painting up for higher end backers.

Check it out!

Anyway, we're still waiting on the final sculpts for the last two of the five promo miniatures that also go along with this project, and I can't wait to see them!

Anyway, thanks for visiting!

Goalsystem Delves: Kickstarter Motors Along

Well, with 31 days remaining, the Delves Kickstarter stands at 55% funded!  I am humbled and excited by this progress on our project.  I thought I might take a post to share the cool graphic my partner Joe Dragovich created to illustrate the $100 backer level rewards:

Joe's developing some impressive skills on the Indesign front, and this bodes well for the final layout of the book, should we achieve our goal.

The rules themselves have not changed much in the last 10 days, and for me that is a sign that they're solidifying into what we'll see in the finished product. I am hoping for feedback from several newer play-test groups, so we'll see what becomes of that.

If you haven't checked out our KS page or the accompanying  video, please do! If you can make it through my prattling parts, Rico has a really fun section in the middle that will surely make you smile!

Nobody Asked Me, But...

Being an occasional collection of my personal ramblings on games and gaming.

We added a couple of Retailer options to the Goalsystem Delves KS and Noble Knight Games stepped up and supported us!  I've been a customer of theirs for years, and when I cannot find something at Phantom (my local shop), they're the first place I turn.  Thanks for believing in us, folks!

This Saturday I plan to try Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 3rd ed for the first time.  This is the Fantasy Flight version with the weird dice and interesting components. I am a player in this one, so I can go into it free and easy.  My love of WFRP 2nd is strong, but I am keeping an open mind on this one!

As a bit of a diversion from all of the fantasy stuff I am doing, we're diving back into Classic BattleTech.   I've long been a champion of BT Quick-Strike on this blog, and I still am, but we're actually going to play the fuller version of BT using the rules from the intro set.  We're going to do Lance-on-Lance actions, so that's only a total of 4 'Mechs per side.  In preparation I am painting up some new 'Mechs using my intensive blending scheme featured a while back here. I'd like to get this unit up to a full Company--12 'Mechs! We'll see how it goes!

I am not a big board/card gamer, but I did play an amazing hybrid of the two types of games, Epic Spell Wars from Cryptozoic, and wow, was it a blast!  This is a game I want to own, and the somewhat whimsical approach and hilarious artwork masks some pretty fine game design.  Kudos, Cryptozoic!

That's all for now!  I should have a painted 'Mech or two to show off later this week, and there's always more news looming on the KS front.

Thanks for visiting!

Goalsystem Delves: Complete Cavern of Blood Pic

Here's a pic of the complete Cavern of Blood set we're offering to backers of our Delves Kickstarter:

Pictured above you'll see the 64 pc. set, painted in "dungeon" grays. The versatility and durability of this stuff will make it a winner on the tabletop!  I've been using it in play-tests and have found lots of ways to arrange and re-arrange it.

We'll be doing a video on the KS page sometime in the next week or so.  Next up we need some actual play write-ups and videos!

Thanks for visiting!
