Star Wars Miniatures Sci-Fi Survey 3

Today we have another quick installment of the SW mini survey!

Gotal Assassin (left) and Klatoonian Enforcer (right).

The pair of aliens that make up this installment are the Klatoonian Enforcer (Clone Strike, Common) and the Gotal Imperial Assassin (Force Unleashed, Common).  While both are clearly not human, they could just as easily be Sprawl gangers with exotic bio-augmentations, or near-humans with genetic "uplifts."

Both make great thugs or characters!

Iron Kingdoms RPG: Gobber Bounty Hunter

I picked up the new Iron Kingdoms RPG from Privateer Press.  While I am running Shadowrun, my buddy Rico is going to prep and run this game for us sometime down the road.

I decided I wanted to do a Gobber character, a Bounty Hunter, so I grabbed the Francois miniature from Wyrd's Malifaux game and painted him up.

Shadowrun: A Roach Spirit Incognito

The Roach Spirit miniatures have long been among my favorite "official" Shadowrun miniatures.  My buddy Dan used his own version of this particular miniature to portray his Roach character in my long-running Mutants & Masterminds game.  These figures still very much stand the test of time and hold up well scale-wise with more modern minis.

A while back I stripped this guy's 10-year old paint job, and yesterday, I took a couple of hours to re-base and re-paint him.  A great mini that oozes character!

Shadowrun: A Rigger's Dream--SSU Airborne Transport

From Dust Tactics comes this awesome plastic model kit perfect for Shadowrun!  It made its debut in the session from last Saturday night; the runner team promptly brought it down using a friendly spirit's Accident power.  Now they have to earn enough Nuyen to salvage it!

 So far I've only painted the pilot and the guns.  I could see making it a less military color like blue or even yellow. 

Anyway, a nice addition to the stable!

Shadowrun: A Magician Conversion

I needed a Magician for this past Saturday's game, and I wanted someone unarmed so players would clearly know he was mostly working magic against them. Looking through my various bins of D&D and Star Wars minis,  I came across the Changeling Rogue from D&D minis. A quick hand-swap with a Drow priest allowed me to give him an open left hand and achieve the unarmed look I was wanting.

Once I hit the miniature with Tester's Dull Coat, it really brought out the existing colors and decent stock paint job. All I needed to do was re-paint his flesh.  The Aztlan street mage El Estraño was officially born!

I think his clothing really fits the 2072 SR milieu.

Shadowrun: Corporate Bodyguards

I recently re-based some old Heroscape suited types; these guys will make excellent Corporate bodyguards.

I darkened the flesh tone on the bodyguard on the right to better match the Mumbai setting. Now they're ready to look after Ms. Johnson.

Star Wars Miniatures Sci-Fi Survey 2

Today we'll look at two more miniatures from the Star Wars pre-paint line that have uses in more general sci-fi gaming.

Today it's the Czerka Scientist (Knights of the Old Republic, Common) and the Human Soldier of Fortune (The Clone Wars, Common).

That scientist will make an ideal civilian objective for just about any sci-fi scenario.

Star Wars Miniatures Sci-Fi Survey 1

I'm debuting an occasional feature with this post! Now and then I will feature a few Star Wars collectible miniatures and briefly discuss their merits for use in other sci-fi games. These will normally be Commons or Uncommons. Easy figures to get on eBay or elsewhere.

We'll get things going with a look at the Old Republic Recruit (Legacy of the Force, Common) and the Corellian Pirate (Bounty Hunters, Uncommon).

While both figures possess clear sci-fi trappings, there is nothing binding them exclusively to Star Wars. I like that the Old Republic Recruit is female, as good martial females for sci-fi can be hard to find. Both characters feature nice, clean sculpts and action poses.  These figures would fit just as well into Shadowrun as they would in Traveller.

Shadowrun: A Fine Indian Gentleman

When my buddy Tony needed a model for his Combat Mage character, I dug into my Star Wars miniatures collection and found this gem! He's a human bodyguard from the Legacy of the Force collection.  Among the many things about Star Wars miniatures I like is their uses for general sci-fi.  Who knows what fashions will be like in the future, but this guy's simple sci-fi style really fits SR.  And as a combat mage, Tony's character also carries a small pistol for those times when he's too drained to cast spells.

As Tony's character is a sometime Bollywood actor and native Indian, I had to make a few changes to this figure to give him the right look.







Here's what just 30 minutes can do for a mini like this:

With the right hair color and skin tone he fits right in for Mumbai!

I think I'll do a post later this week on the SW minis line and discuss some common and uncommon minis from it that, like this one, possess super-utility for other sci-fi games.

Armorcast Armored Truck

I've had this model for years and it has proven useful in many sci-fi games.  Last week it came in handy for the Shadowrun game.

Plastic shipping containers from the old AT-43 sets also fit well on this vehicle.

Shadowrun Troll Physical Adept

Another Troll conversion, this involving a Dreamblade Ogre, the booted feet from a Mageknight troll, some horns from a GW Chaos warrior, and some excellent green-stuff work from my buddy, Sky.

This might be one of my favorite conversions so far!

Descent Naga Repaint

Delves fan, play-tester, and all around good guy Jason Hynes (AKA Tenz) was kind enough to send me a batch of extra figures from the Descent game.  Among them was an awesome Naga figure.  In addition to her obvious uses as a pure fantasy piece, the Naga will make an excellent Paracritter baddie for my Shadowrun game.

To give her that exotic, Indian look I sculpted a little bindi and affixed it to her forehead. After a quick repaint, she's ready for action and intrigue in the Awakened World!

Low-Life Kickstarter

Folks, just wanted to quickly plug Andy Hopp's Low-Life Kickstarter!

I love Andy Hopp's quirky and fun artwork, and I dig Savage Worlds and his rulebook that goes with it, so minis were a natural for this world. And Jason Wiebe's amazing sculpts are really doing Andy's artwork justice!

You also get a nice selection of minis for $50--something like 13 at this point.  Not too shabby!

Shadowrun: Indian Gun Adept

I took a Heroclix Deadshot (alternate costume) and did another head swap with an OG Pathan head, and came up with a great Indian Gun Adept for Shadowrun. 

Gun Adepts channel magic into a fiendish efficiency with firearms.

This guy certainly fits!

Shadowrun: Mr. Prem K. Sharma

Prem K. Sharma is an excellent character from the Over the Edge RPG and On the Edge CCG from Atlas Games (see the links on the left).

I dig him so much I decided to convert a miniature for him an introduce him into my SR campaign.  He'll be a prominent Mumbai businessman, but is he really much more than that?  Time will tell!
