Shadowrun: Ork Mystic Adept!

Shadows of Mumbai continued Saturday night with another installment run by Andrew--I got to play again!!!


Anyway, I thought it might be cool to finally show off my character miniature for the game.  Just as bit of background, my character is an Ork Mystic Adept named Hasti.  He was trained in a Hindu monastery and came to Mumbai when he reached adulthood to pursue his dharma.

In Saturday's session, we hunted down a Somali pirate named Shah Shaz, battling him and his crew in their watery abode (he was a Magician).  My character is slow (only 1 Initiative pass), but deadly in unarmed combat, while also adding Astral Sight and an ability to shutdown opposing magic users (lots of Counterspell and Banishing). 

I had Bob Naismith sculpt a figure of him for me, and this figure will later become available as a limited reward for backers of my buddy Joe's Ghosts of Hefei Kickstarter.  In Ghosts of Hefei he'll be The Oni--an augmented street thug with plenty of attitude!

I'll be sure to let folks know when this whole thing launches. I am consulting with Joe on the rules, but it's his project, dove-tailing off of his highly successful Department Goalsystem release from earlier this year.

He comes with a molded base, and he's mounted on a  25mm wooden circle from Litko.

Shadowrun: Converted Ork Enforcer

Our Shadowrun campaign, Shadows of Mumbai continues tonight!  I have not had a lot of spare time this week, but I did manage another conversion to make an Ork Enforcer or Ganger. Here he is!

This simple conversion utilizes the body of a Star Wars Human Blaster For Hire (Bounty Hunters, Common) and the head of a D&D Minis Goblin Black Blade (War Drums, Common).  Goblin heads are often big, so it sized perfectly with this mini.  He's really cool, and I really think he as the SR aesthetic down.

Now here's hoping he doesn't gack my character tonight!

The Delves rules blend RPG elements with traditional tabletop miniature skirmish for a unique and engaging play experience. Shadowrun: Ork Street Samurai

We've been looking for more metahuman types for the Shadowrun campaign, so while at my buddy Eric's shop last week, I spied a Heroclix Black Tarantula figure--a perfect mini for an SR conversion!

I simply brought him home, popped his head off, added some green stuff for a landing point, and popped on a sawed off head from a D&D Minis Orc.  Instant Ork Street Sam!

A bit of mild re-painting, and here he is!

If I get time this week I may add some gear and pouches to further kit him out.

Shadowrun Female Civilian Done

As per my plan, I did manage to get the Star Wars figure from Friday's post modded and re-painted for our Shadowrun games. I used a right hand from a 'Clix Polaris figure to replace the lightsaber hand.

I did the cape in a nice, bright blue to give her a bit of color.  While she has some soft details, there is enough there to work with.  She'll look great in a street scene, or as a potential adventure objective.

This Weekend's Plan...

This weekend I'll work on Kickstarter shipping and other issues, but I also intend to spend a little time modding another Star Wars figure for Shadowrun.  Here she is:

This is the Young Jedi (Universe, Common) figure, and my plan is to texture her base, re-paint her flesh to reflect an Indian heritage, and remove the lightsaber hand and replace it with an empty hand or closed fist.  She'll be some sort of civilian, maybe a corporate operative.

I like the outfit and the pose.

Shadowrun: A Fine Ork Gentleman

Shadowrun includes many metahuman types: Humans, Orks, Elves, Dwarves, and Trolls chief among them. Finding and making human sci-fi civilians is a cinch, but the other metatypes present a challenge.  Today's post features a conversion I did using the body of a Star Wars Rodian Diplomat (Masters of the Force, Common) and the head of a D&D Miniatures Hobgoblin Impaler (Angelfire, Common). 

I think it came off quite well, and I really like the look for the Streets of Mumbai.

I did not do any real re-painting on the conversion aside from a few touch-ups and the disguise of some green-stuff work.

Star Wars To Shadowrun Again

My order of Star Wars minis from Strikezone online arrived, and I immediately grabbed General Dodonna (Rare, Legacy of the Force) for use as a civvie for our next Shadowrun session.

I did not need to do much to him save add some base texture and touch-up his face a bit.  I also re-painted his device to a matte blue.

"Trust me, this is a commlink!"

This guy could serve as a tech-type, corporate officer, or warehouse manager. He'll also look great in a crowd!

Shadowrun: Sci-Fi Civilian

Andrew ran a great, super-intense session of our Shadowrun campaign Saturday night and we all had a blast!  The company we'd been doing some running for suffered a "Hostile Takeover" from none other than Saeder-Krupp, the megacorp run by the Great Dragon Lofwyr!  Anyway, the session inspired me to work on some more sci-fi civilians, so that's what I intend to focus on this week with the little free painting time I have.

I know I teased that I would show my character model off, but even though he's painted and looks great, I can't right now. I need to keep him under wraps for a little while. More on that later.

Anyway, I grabbed the box of older Judge Dredd plastics from Mongoose I had laying around and put one together sans weapons.  They make dandy sci-fi civvies!

I decided I wanted some loud, garish colors on this one.  He'll stand out in a crowd for sure!

Next up, re-purposing another Star Wars mini!

Nobody Asked Me, But...

Being an occasional feature where I discuss a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

 It's our third session of Shadowrun this weekend, and since I'm co-GMing this with Andrew, it's my turn to play!  Awesome, I get to unleash my Ork Physical Adept on the Streets of Mumbai!  I'll hopefully be prepping my miniature tomorrow, and should I get him done in time, I'll do a blog post on him Sunday, all other factors permitting. 

My buddy Dan was kind enough to make me a nifty Initiative Tracker for our Shadowrun games.  You can see a piece of it to the left there. Here is a link to download it as a PDF.  This will help us with keeping track of all of those initiative passes and shifting scores.



The Goalsystem Delves Kickstarter post-production is moving apace.  I'll be receiving a printed proof from the CPC Group (our printer) any day now, and I cannot wait.  Once that checks out, the official print run will come soon after!  Final casting of the Oni Mage, Half-Orc Monk, and Kobold Hireling is also taking place even as I type this.

We'll have the Delves PDF out to all of the KS backers owed a copy within the next 2 - 3 days.  I think folks will be very pleased with our work.  Joe Dragovich really killed it on the layout, and the book will be the nicest one I've been a part of to date.

My KS partner Donald Gentry over at Tinker's Lair is selling unpainted pieces and sets from the Caverns of Blood set we offered painted in the Delves KS.  Check them out here.  Great stuff!

Apropos of  nothing, I filled a hole in my long run of Marvel's Avengers (1963) comic book.  Picked up issue #178 featuring a solo story of the Beast.  Penned by Steve Gerber and drawn by Carmine Infantino and the inimitable Rudy Nebres, this one was a lot of fun to read!

Star Wars Human Scoundrel Re-Paint

Continuing my exploration of the old Star Wars pre-painted miniature line, I decided to do a more thorough re-paint on the Human Scoundrel (Bounty Hunters, Common). 

Nothing fancy on this one, I just replicated the base colors the character came with.  Still, a nice miniature and the details took paint well.

I placed an order with Strikezone on eBay for more Star Wars pre-paints better geared toward conversions to sci-fi civilians, so we'll see how that goes!

Star Wars Miniatures Sci-Fi Survey 3

Today we have another quick installment of the SW mini survey!

Gotal Assassin (left) and Klatoonian Enforcer (right).

The pair of aliens that make up this installment are the Klatoonian Enforcer (Clone Strike, Common) and the Gotal Imperial Assassin (Force Unleashed, Common).  While both are clearly not human, they could just as easily be Sprawl gangers with exotic bio-augmentations, or near-humans with genetic "uplifts."

Both make great thugs or characters!

Iron Kingdoms RPG: Gobber Bounty Hunter

I picked up the new Iron Kingdoms RPG from Privateer Press.  While I am running Shadowrun, my buddy Rico is going to prep and run this game for us sometime down the road.

I decided I wanted to do a Gobber character, a Bounty Hunter, so I grabbed the Francois miniature from Wyrd's Malifaux game and painted him up.

Shadowrun: A Roach Spirit Incognito

The Roach Spirit miniatures have long been among my favorite "official" Shadowrun miniatures.  My buddy Dan used his own version of this particular miniature to portray his Roach character in my long-running Mutants & Masterminds game.  These figures still very much stand the test of time and hold up well scale-wise with more modern minis.

A while back I stripped this guy's 10-year old paint job, and yesterday, I took a couple of hours to re-base and re-paint him.  A great mini that oozes character!
