Race Bannon in 15mm?

Well, maybe...

This GZG mini slightly resembles a 15mm sci-fi Race Bannon from Johnny Quest.

Starblazer Adventures

Well, after quite some time discussing it I got to run a chargen session with Starblazer Adventures on Friday night. I've got four pretty interesting player characters to work wih, so we'll see how it shakes out.

I am using the rules to run a Star Hunters campaign, where the player characters act as intergalactic bounty hunters tasked with tracking down war criminals from a recently fallen religious dictatorship. My party will consist of a grizzled merc with some terrible sins in his past, a psychic soldier from some forgotten meta-program, a twisted scientist/medic with a penchant for close-up saw work, and a re-programmed pilot robot who once worked for the very people they'll be hunting!

Neat bunch. We'll see if the group can get a handle on the rules. There's a lot there to latch on to, but it is very different from other games we've played. The more I read the book, the more sanguine I become!

P.S. And yes, we'll be using miniatures. So I will have cause to share some pics when I get a chance!

Too Big for 15mm?

I've had a Grendel resin-cast hover tank for years. Since I've been heavily back into 15mm sci-fi, I painted it up thinking it might be ideal as a Grav AFV for some of my troops, or as a patrol vehicle for Starport 3030.

Then my buddy Aaron commented that it looked a bit large for 15mm. I'm not very sure myself. It was originally sculpted for true 25mm sci-fi. It looks dynamite with WEG's old metal Star Wars line, and it looks pretty good with my old Blade 20mm sci-fi troops--the Blade guys are now sold by Liberation Miniatures, and they are exquisite 20mm sci-fi miniatures.

Still I am thinking, why can't this work as a really big AFV for 15mm? So I thought I'd take some pics and ask the folks who follow this blog to give me some feedback. Any thoughts on the matter?

Let me know what you think!

Starport 3030--More Denizens...

In between working on the 15mm company scale rules and revising all of the existing SuperFigs write-ups, I did manage to paint a few more 15mm sci-fi minis for myself.

There are no inks or washes on the above model. I painted him "Foundry style" using some mild blending techniques. Not a bad scheme at 15mm!

Also a RAFM miniature, this second guy was painted using the traditional wash and highlight method. I need to bring the piping on his pants back up a bit.

The Servobot is homemade from some cut up plastic Tau bits. The second pic has him next to one of the RAFM Space Vixens.

More to come, as I should have some extra time this week!

GZG Bulldog Truck

The denizens of Starport 3030 need some more transport. This is a start! The model is the GZG V15-40A Bulldog Truck.

The cab gun is not glued on, so I can pop it off for scenarios that do not call for an armed vehicle.

It's all metal and quite nice. Very little flash and assembles easily. My next GZG order will include some more hover cars and vehicles that could be used in either a civilian, police, or military role.

Blue Garn (15mm sci-fi)

Most of my Garn are reddish brown. I decided to do one specifically for Starport 3030 that was a different color, and I went with Blue. I am thinking he's a regular denizen of the port. Perhaps a bounty slayer or some kind of military muscle for hire.

Below I've got him side-by-side with yet another great RAFM Traveller figure. That line is aces!

Another Batch of 15mm Sci-Fi

As I work on the larger task of writing a set of company-level sci-fi rules, I keep winnowing away at my pile of unpainted 15mm sci-fi skirmish models.

While rooting through some of my unpainted small scale stuff I also came across some Pendraken sci-fi stuff I bought more than 8 years ago. Among them were a pack of robots that make ideal work bots and companions for 15mm sci-fi figures.

As you can see above I got two painted. One is a cleaner model, likely used indoors and property of someone of means in the starport. The other is quite weathered and likely spends its days toiling in the hot sun or driving rain. I imagine that in a pinch either could muster some energy attack to protect their masters.

Below is a size comparison with a RAFM Traveller tech mini. She makes a great customs agent or techie of some kind.

Here's another RAFM Traveller tech-type. I painted her in the same color work uniform as the model above.

I am steadily populating the landscape of Starport 3030 with some cool 15mm personalities. More to come this week!

Great Day for Cosmic Comics!

If you like cosmic supers, and anyone who reads this blog regularly knows I do, today was a very good day.

Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard came out from Marvel, and DC released issue #10 of R.E.B.E.L.S.

Both books feature top-flight creative teams and tie into larger stories. They get my highest recommendation!

15mm Sci-Fi Skirmish

Ever since the days of the Traveller RPG folks have used 15mm figures in skirmish and role-play. I am slowly building a collection of 15mm sci-fi minis that will allow me to do the same.

One thing I've discovered, and it should have been obvious to me, is that 15mm figures paint up really fast--there's just less area to cover!

I knocked out 6 yesterday. Check them out!

The figures are a mix of RAFM and GZG space pirate types.

I also did this little runabout grav car from GZG:

My goal is to populate an entire star-port full of 15mm sci-fi figure. Should be fun!

SuperSystem Cover Art Revealed!

Hey, folks! We're getting closer to the release of SuperSystem 3rd ed. Here's a sneak peak of the cover painting by Joseph Urban. The logo is just a place holder--we'll be using our traditional orange and yellow logo for the final version.

This great piece depicts a battle between Thunderfist and the Ego-Bot!

We're finalizing the layout now, so a November 22 release looks good. I am also working on getting a small number of books printed out in a spiral bound format, with color covers and b&w interiors. Lulu is also an option. We'll see.

Separately, I still have a number of Superfigs model stats to revise for the free PDF release of the Official SuperSystem Teams and Characters.

I'll post more on this when I know it!

More 15mm Garn

I recently re-based some of my 15mm Garn from Khurasan miniatures. I like them better on their own washers.

The above image is a comparison shot between a Garn and a Rebel Miniatures Sahadeen fighter.

I've got a plan for taking this single basing into account in my 15mm rules I am working on. I'll share more on this when things with the rules have firmed up a bit more. In the meantime, I should be seeing orders arrive from GZG, 15mm.co.uk, and RAFM in the next few days. Brisk business at the PO box!

A tad late for Halloween, but...

I had to show off some pics of this great old Crucible mini I dug out and re-based for my buddy Rico's Warhammer Halloween event this past Saturday. This guy was one of a necromancer's lackeys guarding his tower against ravening hordes of treasure-seeking thugs!

He met a bad end at the hands of some Dwarves. Oh well...

Should have included a 28mm minis for scale, but this guy is about the size of an Ogre. That's a GW 40mm monster base he's on.
