Star-Krong Revealed!

Just had to share an image or two of the latest SuperFig, Star-Krong! He'll be included in the release of new and re-worked SuperFigs sometime later this year. In the meantime he will feature prominently in my own superhero RPG and miniature games.

Here's a smaller image with a size comparison (Wild Man is about 29mm-30mm tall):

LotR: War of the Ring

Amidst all of the other miniature related projects, I am contemplating expanding my collection of Lord of the Rings Dwarves and playing War of the Ring when it comes out. A mass battle game with cool movement bases, nice plastic minis, and slick mechanics? Sign me up.

Agony and Ecstasy of the U.S. Mail

I love getting stuff in the mail. I've been waiting for a new SuperFig master casting to show up from the factory, and it arrived Saturday! I cleaned and painted it almost immediately. I'll take some pics today or tomorrow and post them up.

Now I an still waiting for the other half of my rare earth magnet order. It's been 8 days. They must be on the slow boat. Until I get them, the Kustom Ork Dreadnought project is stalled.

And now for a total non-sequitur--we played Shadowrun 4th edition last night. I love the rules! The best version of SR ever. This year is the 20 year anniversary of SR, and Catalyst Games is really planning some nice stuff for the game. Very exciting!

Guardians of the Galaxy #10 (some spoilers)

Another great issue from DnA! Star-Lord got out of his mess at the Neg. Zone prison, the team is somewhat reunited, and Brad Walker seems to be settling solidly as the new regular penciler.

Looks like Jack Flag could be a new member as well.

A friend and I were thinking that Star-Lord might be an impostor, as in issue 9 he showed an alarming level of physical power in decking the Man-Bull, and savagely beat Carrion in order to make him send the distress call to Mantis. Of course, maybe he was just desperate? Not sure, but it bears some watching.

The Siberian

We've made a lot of SuperFigs over the years, well over 100 actually, a lot more if you count individual henchmen poses as separate figures, but the Siberian has long been one of favorites. He's one of the original 10 Bob Naismith did for us back in early 2001, and I have probably painted him six times since then. This pic is my latest version.

Weekend Wrap-Up

I have a large Ork army for Warhammer 40,000 5th edition. I like building kustom Dreadnoughts, big walking tanks for the space orks.

I wanted to build a second Dread in this style, but this time I wanted to use the new Big Grabba claws from the Ork Battlewagon kit.

I had to figure out how to mount them on the chassis. I decided to use the tire halves from various older Ork vehicle kits. I think it turned out pretty good. Now I have to wait for the rare earth magnets to arrive from eBay and I can finish the mounting. Then I can change the weapon load-out whenever I want.

I'll update when the magnets arrive.

Quick Comics Review: R.E.B.E.L.S. and Guardians of the Galaxy

I know I said I'd talk mostly about RPG's and miniatures on this blog, but I can't resist plugging two comic books that I really believe deserve some attention. One is from DC and the other is from Marvel.

R.E.B.E.L.S.
This is a new offering from DC that features Braniac-5's distant ancestor, Vril Dox, or Braniac-2, as it were. Anyway, the series is written by Tony Bedard and builds from a previous title of the same name, and the old 1990's title L.E.G.I.O.N. I love space-based superhero action, and this looks promising on that stand point. Bedard did a nice interview on Newsarama that hints at the series theme and direction. Issue #1 just came out this week, so it'll be easy to get in on the ground floor of this one. Looks like a blast!

Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel's got it's cosmic heroes too, and GotG has been the book I look forward to most each month since it was revived last year. It's only 9 issues in, so again, not too tough to jump in on. Also, a TPB is in the works collecting issues 1 - 6. This is written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, a team supreme for comic fans. Abnett is also one of the finest writers of gamer fiction out there. The series also features tremendous art by Paul Pelltier and Rick Magyar. The title is now very much part of Marvel's War of Kings mega story, which I also recommend.

That's all I have for today. Check these out if you have the inclination.

First Things First

I am terribly late to the game in starting a blog now, but there is something to the old cliche, better late than never.

By way of introduction, my name is Scott Pyle, and I am a librarian by profession, a gamer by passion.

This blog will mainly cover my two primary hobby interests, miniatures and tabletop RPG's. I work in the industry as creator of the SuperFigs line of 28mm superhero miniatures, and the author of SuperSystem, the skirmish game of superhero combat.

Guess that's it for now. I'll try to add some images of my latest projects and gaming interests as I go. More to come!
