I know I said I'd talk mostly about RPG's and miniatures on this blog, but I can't resist plugging two comic books that I really believe deserve some attention. One is from DC and the other is from Marvel.
R.E.B.E.L.S.
This is a new offering from DC that features Braniac-5's distant ancestor, Vril Dox, or Braniac-2, as it were. Anyway, the series is written by Tony Bedard and builds from a previous title of the same name, and the old 1990's title L.E.G.I.O.N. I love space-based superhero action, and this looks promising on that stand point. Bedard did a nice interview on Newsarama that hints at the series theme and direction. Issue #1 just came out this week, so it'll be easy to get in on the ground floor of this one. Looks like a blast!
Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel's got it's cosmic heroes too, and GotG has been the book I look forward to most each month since it was revived last year. It's only 9 issues in, so again, not too tough to jump in on. Also, a TPB is in the works collecting issues 1 - 6. This is written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, a team supreme for comic fans. Abnett is also one of the finest writers of gamer fiction out there. The series also features tremendous art by Paul Pelltier and Rick Magyar. The title is now very much part of Marvel's War of Kings mega story, which I also recommend.
That's all I have for today. Check these out if you have the inclination.

Guardians is a great book. One of the view I actually still like from Marvel. Both Annhilations were good and so is Nova.
ReplyDeleteYep. I also read Nova. Nova, GotG, and some of the War of Kings titles are all I buy right now. That and re-print TPB's of old Avengers titles. I know the whole Bendis formula is working (I've seen the sales figures), but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Bendis is awful in my opinion. Check out Captain America, Daredevil, and Iron Fist. Ed Brubaker writes Cap and Daredevil and they are great. He started Iron Fist. The first arc was great and the new writer is doing a decent job too. Green Lantern is also really good right now.
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about Brubaker. Thanks!
