15mm Fantasy: Part I

After spending all of last week painting 10 ships for Dreadfleet I needed a break. A palette cleanser if you will.

I've had three packs of Mark Copplestone's brilliant 15mm Fantasy figures sitting on my desk since just after Labor Day, and I decided it was high time to dig into them. Today's post represents a modest beginning. One figure and something for him to "play" with.

You see, the great thing about 15mm fantasy is the wide swath of monsters it opens up. A mere irritation to a 28mm hero becomes a behemoth to a 15mm champion. So I dipped into my D&D mini collection and did a quick re-paint on a medium scorpion. Instant menace!

And here he is facing off against the "giant" scorpion:

More characters and monsters later this week!

Thanks for visiting!

  3. Thanks, guys! I was thinking of maybe coming up with some rules (maybe Goalsystem maybe not) where you could play solo against the game. I'd write it for 15mm to be played on a 2 x 2. Kind of an Endless Quest for miniature wargames.

I was thinking of calling it "Solo-System", but I could also see two players teaming up and going against the game.

  5. That's why we like 15mm fantasy. I'll tell you that the new Warhammer Giant looks down right terrifying next to a 15mm knight. And one of the big D&D prepaint Dragons, actually looks like a dragon next to a 15. Awesome.

I like the idea of a solo vs the game idea a lot. we do some of that for our games, but they always devolve into killing each other.

Does it only need to be 1 or 2 people? could it be more? 6-8, like a large adventuring party or a warband vs the environment. Random tables or a campaign system like in ITEN? Hmmmm.....

Seems like a good idea to me Scott.

BTW, liked the Dread Fleet stuff and the new Copplestone.

  6. The Copplestone stuff is fantastic. I like what ken mentioned about a warband vs. the environment, etc. It sounds like an idea with potential. Either way get right on it!

  7. I'm painting mine right now too, I love these figures.

I'm also crazy about the idea of Solo-system! If you want any help playetsting etc with it, I'm dead keen.

  8. Great looking mini, with amazing detail for 15mm.

Love the idea of a solo system too. Your idea of a 2x2 play area for 15mm sounds great; it'd convert easily to a 3x3 (or 4x4) for 25/28mm for people who play in that scale, which is still reasonable.

I've just started reading the rules for Goalsystem Fantasy, and I'd definitely jump at a solo system too (even if it's not based on the Goalsystem).

  9. Thanks, folks! Given some time this week, I may commit some words to the virtual paper and see what I can come up with!
