Khurasan Alien Bounty Hunter 1

Picked up the 5-pack of Khurasan 15mm Alien Bounty Hunters. Simply tremendous!  Painted my first one last night!

Pictured next to a Rebel Pangalactic Legionaire.

I'll try to knock out at least one more before the long weekend finishes out.

Sci-Fi Utility Vehicle: Stalinets Tractor

When I came across this Flames of War resin two-pack online, I immediately thought it would make a great sci-fi utility vehicle for Starport 3030.  I could see these puttering around an old mining site, or being used in a pinch for emergency transport by a small group of desperate fighters.

Order code is BFSU273 Stalinets tractor

It was a breeze to paint, and I will do the second one soon!

Rebel Minis Pangalactic Legion

I am a huge fan of the old Alien Legion comics, and so I have had my eye on Rebel Minis Pangalactic Legion 15mm sci-fi troops for some time. Placed an order last week and had them in three days!

Here are the first three!

Returning to 15mm has been an adjustment. I am wrestling with these guys and getting them "right" in my mind. Still a work in progress, but I am getting there. My camera work on the 15mm stuff has been lacking too.

But I'll get back in the swing!

Another Critical Mass Merc

Got the bullet-headed Merc from Critical Mass Games done on Saturday. Check him out!

While I am off to a bit of a slow start with 15mm sci-fi stuff, I hope to pick up the pace soon.  I've got plenty of stuff in the hopper, and more on the way!

Khurasan Female Crew Member

Khurasan miniatures makes one of the widest and highest quality lines of 15mm sci-fi around. Last year I worked on some other figures from this pack. Now I've picked this gal up from the project pile on got some paint on her.

She'll make a great character for Starport 3030 or any setting or skirmish game.

Below you can see that she scales very well with the CMG Merc I painted the other day. Whether they get along or not is another question!

15mm: A Return

Life is about transitions. In the next year my wife and I may be moving to smaller digs. Nothing is certain, but the possibility is a strong one. This means I need to re-evaluate the last 20 years of my miniature collecting. I've always been a prolific modeler and painter, so maybe that makes it easier for me to let go of an army, warband, or individual figure, knowing that I can crank out replacements if the desire hits me.

So over the next few months I am going to sell off a lot of my older painted (and unpainted) figures that I am not using, or that I don't plan to use. The idea is to cut down to the core of my collection, the stuff I use a lot or just won't part with. In the meantime I've been thinking that a return to 15mm modelling and painting is now in order. With 15mm I can still make small purchases and satisfy my desire to paint and collect, and I get satisfying games in on a 2' x 2' square. This scale seems ideal for gaming in a condo or smaller house.

So to celebrate my return to 15mm painting and gaming, I plan to work in some posts with those themes in mind. Games on a 2x2--stuff like Blasters & Bulkheads, Gruntz (a game I have ordered, but not yet tried), and maybe even some fantasy stuff using the excellent 15mm range from Copplestone Castings.

Next to a Khurasan Garn.

For today I've painted up just one figure, but hey, I need to get back in the swing of things! It's a great mini from Critical Mass Games' mercenaries line. More to come!

Hordes: 15 pt. Trollblood Campaign Force

As I've said over the past few posts, the Trollbloods I am working on (and reacquiring in some cases) are for a specific, store-based escalation campaign. While also narrative in nature, the campaign will slowly build in points over time. We're starting at 15 pts.

Here's my list:

Madrak Ironhide (+6 beast pts.)
Troll Impaler 5 pts.
Dire Troll Mauler 9 pts.
Trollblood Fenblades 5 pts. (leader + 5)
Whelps 2 pts. (5 solo models)
=====
total = 15 pts.

And here's a couple of shots of the assembled force:

I played one game last Sunday and it was quite fun. It's a neat and balanced force, and the Whelps really allow me to run the Trolls "hot"--I may need to add more Whelps in the future, but I'd like to use different models if possible. We'll see.

Hordes: Dire Troll Mauler

I could not make this latest foray into Trollbloods without doing a Dire Troll Mauler. The new plastic kit allows you to make one of three types of Dire Trolls: Blitzer, Bomber, or Mauler.  I chose the Mauler for aesthetic reasons, but I am told by the PP cognoscenti that he is an auto-include in any troll list. This is a rare occasion where my tastes and the best rules converge.

Anyway, assembled and painted him over Friday and Saturday. Love this kit!

All I can say is I want more plastic!  The plastic Swamp Troll news was great, but let's have more! Plastic Pygs would be awesome!

Hordes: Trollblood Axer

Got the Trollblood Axer done a few days ago, but I am finally getting around to posting pics of him!  He's a serviceable, 6 pt. light warbeast with a great Animus that adds +2" of movement to a target.

Next post I'll show off the first heavy in my band, the plastic Dire Troll Mauler!  Then later this week I will go a bit into the 15 pt. build I will use for our initial games.

Hordes: The Albino Impaler

Here's some shots of the albino Impaler for my Madrak force. The white skin will also make telling him apart from the other Impaler quite easy!

Blurry pic, but Madrak has his escort now!

Next up, the Axer!

Hordes: Plastic Madrak Complete!

First off, Happy New Year!

Been sneaking in some productive painting sessions the past few days, and I managed to get my plastic Madrak Trollblood warlock done, along with an albino Impaler who I envision as his "personal" warbeast.

Having 15 pts. by this coming Sunday should now be no sweat, as I reacquired the plastic Fenblade unit I painted last year for a friend in a nifty trade.

Let's have a look at Madrak, as it all starts with him!

I employed Secret Weapon chalks to weather the armor.

Another look at the weathering.
Incidentally, I'll be photographing my Trollbloods in the War Torn Worlds Ruinopolis terrain system. The reason why is that Andrew and Rico are running a story based Warmachine/Hordes campaign where controlling territory could become important. It's set in the Cryx area of Cain Thornwood Forest, a place rife with swamps thick wilderness and ruins from the old Orgoth empire. I figure Madrak has come south and taken up residence in one of these old ruins until he can win better quarters.

My Ruinopolis set covers a nice 2' x 2' area, so this will make excellent terrain for a section of the battle area. I plan to include some moss and lichen to give it that overgrown look.

In the next couple of posts I will show off the Albino Impaler light warbeast I finished, then the Axer light warbeast after that.
