Mecha-Police! Valkyrie 15mm Sci-Fi Conversion

Last post I showed off one of ArtCrime's Valkyrie Battlesuits for 15mm sci-fi. This time around I've come up with a conversion to make one into a Police Riot Control unit complete with multi-ammo grape-shot cannon, riot shield, and ammo pack that contains several different loads based on the opposition faced.

Here some shots of the results!

Here are some comp shots with a 15mm Traveller mini from RAFM:

The shield, shotgun, and backpack (cut down) all came from the 28mm plastic Void trooper.

ArtCrime's 15mm Valkyrie Battlesuit

Had a lovely packet waiting for me when I got home today--ArtCrime Production's 15mm Valkyrie Battlesuits! I managed to sneak one in while working on some Dark Eldar for a client of mine.

Overall, the quality on these is superlative. They come 3 to a pack for $20. The suits consist of legs and body, torso, right and left arms, and a separate weapon. I got the basic pack which includes all the same drum-fed anti-personnel weapon. Artcrime makes other variants with different load-outs.

Anyway, here is the first one done:

Here's comp shot with a Traveller 15mm sci-fi Space Pirate:

And here's one with a GZG space adventurer (aka, Race Bannon!):

And just for grins and giggles, here he is next to my recently painted Heavy Gear Mad Dog R:

The battlesuits came with plastic square bases, but I prefer round bases when I can manage it, so I put the Valkyrie on a 20mm washer. I went with a very limited palette and did some weathering to finish it off. In all, I love these little guys!

Nice going, ArtCrime!

'Mech Scale Comparisons

Blog watcher Counter Fett asked me if I would post some scale comp pics of various 'Mechs that I own from different companies. So here they are.

Above we have from left to right, Rampage (BattleTech), Warrior (Heavy Gear), Orion (BattleTech), Mad Dog (Heavy Gear), EM-4 Giant Robot, Blue Moon Robot Walker.

Above we have a closer shot of the Orion, Mad Dog, and EM-4 'Mech.

Above is a closer shot of the Warrior, the Rampage (an Assault class 'Mech in BT), and the Mad Dog again.

Above here's a BattleTech Commando (a light 'Mech) and the Mad Dog (considered a mid-sized bruiser in Heavy Gear).

And finally, above you can the Commando and the Warrior side by side.

Hope this helps folks!

Heavy Gear: Mad Dog R

Continuing with my scale and genre shift, I dug out some of my unpainted Heavy Gear models. I had wanted to do a Western Frontier Protectorate mountaineering force so I assembled some models to work on that project, then promptly moved on to something else.

So it is nice to have that stuff in reserve for times like these. There are so many Gears I like among the Northern faction options, but chief among them is the Mad Dog R, Den Mother, Bear two-pack.

I wanted to use the same scheme for this group of gears that I used for some BattleMechs I did a while back.

Here's what I've managed to complete today:

And here are some comp shots with other HG stuff I've done:

This week I hope to receive some 15mm Valkyrie suits from Art Crime productions, and when I get them, I will be sure to paint them up and show them off here!

BattleTech: Defiance

Another palette cleanser as I take a step away from PP sculpts for a few days (aside from mercenary work).

I went back to BattleTech and painted up the hefty 75 ton Defiance--a great looking newer 'Mech from Iron Wind Metals. I painted it up in my Hannibal's Cannibals scheme. Here it is:

And here's a comp shot with the Defiance next to a 50 ton Hunchback:

Blue Moon Robot Preview III

Been painting a lot of fantasy stuff of late, so I thought I might change gears (pun intended) and paint up another Blue Moon robot miniature. These 28mm figures will come as a set and can be assembled in a number of different ways. Here's another example:

They come with a small, cast-on base. I mounted this mini on a washer for extra stability.

And a comp shot for some scale reference:

Thanks for looking!

Hordes: Slag Troll

Pound for pound, one of the best light warbeasts for the Trollbloods is the Slag Troll. He performs especially well in play environments where a Trollblood player will face a lot of Warmachine forces. You see, the Slag Troll loves munching on metal, and his acid spit ranged attack enjoys extra effectiveness against non-living models (re: Warjacks!).

I leaned heavily on Foundry's Quagmire for this paint job, and I am happy with my results--note the stippling of rust effects around the ridged protrusions.

And here's a shot of him with his little Trollblood Whelp buddy:

Mega Minotaur!

Managed to squeeze in the excellent Mega Miniatures Minotaur today in between other tasks.

Here he is!

And here is a scale ref with him next to Herakles (Wargames Foundry):

Another Podcast From Play Unplugged!

Over this past weekend, Rico, Tony, and I did a podcast for Play Unplugged on miniatures in RPG games.

We talked about how using miniatures for our games informs the character creation process, and enhances combat scenes. Have a listen here. It's a great way to kill an hour or so while looking over those TPS reports at work!

Thanks for listening!

Trollkin Skinner

I am a big fan of Solos in Privateer Press' games, Hordes and Warmachine. I like them because they're mostly a single model, usually fun to paint, and provide some interesting spark to round out a force.

Case in point, the Trollkin Skinner. From his coon-skin cap to his badass Bowie knife, the Skinner means business! He specializes in taking on warbeasts, so he'll prove less effective against Warmachine armies, but I don't care--he's cool! And that's all that matters to me!

Pretty much a stock paint job, but I saw no reason to deviate from PP's excellent example model.
