Imperial Science Fiction: Thousand Suns, et. al.

The concept of Imperial Science Fiction began in the 1950's and featured tales of vast galactic empires battling over whole planetary systems. My favorites of this brand include the works of Jerry Pournelle and Frank Herbert.

Over the weekend I received the copy of Thousand Suns 2nd ed. I ordered from RPGNow. It's Imperial Sci-Fi at its best, and got me inspired to paint up one of my Pig Iron sci-fi troopers that had been languishing in my backlog. Here he is:

I really feel that this very simple paint job really brings out the hard-sci-fi feel of these excellent models.

I need to move forward and finish the rest of the force in this scheme!

Thanks for visiting!

  4. Looks really cool! I like the orange visor with the dark blue uniform. Very "fleet" looking. I recently got some Kolony Militia and Kolony Ferals. Pig Iron's stuff is really nice.

  5. Yes, Nathan, the Kolony guys are great! I also like the newer "hard-suited" troopers they make.

  6. Very nice - I've only ever bought the heads from Pig Iron (three times now) but they've been very decent each time! I've had these in the basket on their site a bunch of times, but decided to hold off purchasing...you may just tip me over the edge!

  7. I love the PIG stuff and this looks great. I am going to fill in what I am missing from their lines with the Xmas money I got. And I am waffling on getting the new thousand suns book. But it sure looks grand.

  8. Mongoose Traveller is great, and I support it, but Thousand Suns provides a nice alternative. Combats will not be nearly as lethal, while still being dangerous.
