Return to the 3030

A while back I did a series of posts on the Starport 3030 15mm sci-fi setting I was kicking around for some skirmish gaming.

My good friend Charlie Hiber (creator of the Glock-Roach) liked what I was doing so much he wanted to get in on the act. He gathered some cool bits and made the two coolest servo droids I've ever seen! I also have to say that his paint jobs on them are top notch! Love the color choices and the weathering!

(more pics after the bio article, below)

Here's their story, in his own words:

Big Mike and Ol'Rusty,

The history of the heavy labor droids known as big mike and ol'rusty dates back to the founding of Starport 3030. Part of the original shipment of fifty construction droids that built the spaceport, they found service as heavy lifters at the docks like the rest of their kind when the initial work was finished.

Over the decades the other droids fell into disrepair, or were replaced by newer models, but Mike and Rusty continued to report to work day after day, slowly becoming a familiar part of the rich tapestry of life in the spaceport. Due the fact that they have been operating far past their designed lifespans, the pair have developed mannerisms and foibles uncommon in droids of their simplistic program type, and the populace at large have accepted them as members of the community (even when their"foibles" have led to 'accidents' befalling some of the other droids in their presence).

Though technically owned by the Carlockk Warehouse Conglomerate, no one claims authority over the pair. They just show up at the start of each shift, and return to their home at the end of it. This has led to many off-worlders trying to collect the pair or to forcibly try and decommission them--all have been sent packing by a unified front of angry citizens standing by their 'boys'. And not a single being in the port thinks twice when they 'pass the hat' to pay for maintenance on the pair.

As is commonly said about the pair,"there may be newer droids out there, but there's none better!"

Thanks, Charles! We'll have to get Mike and Rusty into another game soon!
